Alex from Lumberjack Engineering here: My very first time wheeling, I passed by the husk of a burnt-out side-by-side that had caught fire on the trail - it was nothing more than a seared metal frame and melted components. That mental image burned itself into my brain, and I decided that keeping a fire extinguisher quickly accessible should be a priority for any off-road vehicle that is routinely pushed to its limits. Seconds truly matter in a situation involving a vehicle fire, and ease/speed of access to the fire extinguisher may be the difference between loosing a vehicle (and igniting the surroundings) or being able to extinguish a fire before it's too late.
I tried several different locations, but I wasn't happy with any of them - they were either too difficult to access, or put the fire extinguisher in a location that was in-the-way for passengers in the vehicle.
However, I then had the thought to mount it to the front of the seat rails! This solution utilizes custom-designed attachment brackets that fit the rail ends perfectly with cutouts for the seat rail actuator screws. The brackets attach via replacement of an M5 shoulder bolt with a longer version (included) at the top of the rails. You simply push the lower plastic trim upwards (out of the way), remove the stock M5 shoulder bolts, place the brackets into place, and install the longer (included) shoulder bolt on each side to lock the brackets into place.
Spanning the two brackets is a CNC-plasma cut 12 gauge steel panel full of 1/4" slots to allow you to mount *whatever* you'd like on the front of it - fire extinguisher? Absolutely. Radio body? Definitely. Jelly bean dispenser? One day (design still pending...). This panel is securely mounted to the brackets via 4x low-profile stainless steel M6 socket head cap screws & locknuts.
Initially, this might seem like it'd get in your way - but, as it turns out, nobody's legs get that close to the seat front on a regular basis (see attached photo for my normal driving position). This is a perfect spot - entirely unobtrusive, but super easy & quick to access.
The best part about this design? Because the brackets attach to the seat rail fronts, the entire assembly moves *with* the seat - that means that no matter where you position your seat, the mount & attached accessories are always in the optimal position.
Fits both the driver's & passenger side of the selected vehicle. Sold in raw 12ga steel.
